Trick or Treat?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1224075,00.html
above article mentions new information prevailing that iran in fact helped spur the u.s. into iraq by helping feed false info into 'intelligence' sources concerning iraq.
why would iran do this? well to the guardian's credit, they speak about the gamemenship of iran wanting america to take out hussein of whom they hated (read about war between iran and iraq of the 1980's) and thus bring about a mechanism in order to creat a shi'ia state.
how could iran do this? by having the patience to watch america come in, take out saddam, and then watch and help an insurgency from within which will eventually tire the americans and cause them so much frustration that they will leave without having formed enough of a foundation that can actually build a nation.
the iranians if this is true are showing a lot of political foresight, but what if they are wrong? what if america actually has the resolve to stay and decides to now play political and covert dice with iran? does there exist in the states enough people sitting in important offices that will actually savor a go at iran? a tit for tat shall we say for the american - iranian mess from the late 1970's which involved the shah, faulty intelligence, the eventual fall of the shah, and the taking of the american hostages.........of which iran won.
one other point, if this is true, even partially, that iran in some way duped america with false information, doesnt it prove what some have been saying all along? that in fact, what the west is up against is a war with the extremists of islam?
who is looking long-term here?
